Headless Drupal (Also known as decoupled Drupal) is a relatively new approach to delivering websites that deliver an outstanding user experience, utilising a modern ReactJS framework the Koda team deliver exceptional solutions for their clients.

Drupal continues to be one of the better open source content management systems available, it offers far more flexibility to deliver solutions to complex business requirements than all other Open Source CMS's, this coupled with its focus on security, again, not offered by any other Open Source CMS see Drupal as an ideal platform to deliver the content management system for any online solution.

About Headless (Decoupled) Drupal

kodaHeadless Drupal utilises Drupal to manage the website content as it does today, however rather than using the traditional HTML/CSS templates to present the user interface, the Headless approach utilises Drupal's strong API to allow content managed inside the CMS to be presented to the user as a single page application utilising our preferred technology for the frontend - ReactJS.

This approach allows us to utilise the advanced capabilities of modern browser local storage technology to front load all content associated with the website, for sites that are content heavy, rich with imagery and video, this provides an ideal solution to ensure high performance.

What is React?

Developed by Facebook in 2013, React is a JavaScript framework for building user interfaces. It is most commonly used for websites or mobile applications. The team at Koda have been building online solutions utilising reactJS for over 3 years, we love it!

History

Headless Drupal is not a completely new story, we have been using the CMS to delver content to all of the Mobile Applications that we have designed and delivered, the difference is that with a single page application we are using browser based local storage rather than the storage on your device (which is what we utilise with a mobile application).

The Drupal API and services layer continues to be one of the most powerful available in a modern CMS, the Koda team leverage this to deliver outstanding solutions for our customers.

A recent example of a headless Drupal website can be seen here: Tohu Tipu Case Study, this is a content heavy website, that once loaded performs as quickly as a simple html site, check it out here
