1. Not Mobile Friendly

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again: your website must be responsive! More and more evidence is pointing towards a shift in consumer behaviour towards mobile and tablets being the most used device for surfing the web. It can also cost you in your Google rankings, with the search engine announcing earlier in 2015 that non-responsive sites would be punished in terms of SEO.

2. Distracting Design

The possibilities with web design today are unlimited but a simple design can often be more effective. Websites including interactive animations can often regret adding such complexities as it is hard to maintain and often distracting or ineffective in leading to conversions.

3. Difficult to Navigate

Too many times do we find websites that are willing to sacrifice good usability to have a ‘cool’ (yet unreadable) font or making appropriate and important content hard to find for the sake of the design. Don’t make it impossible for people to search through your site for what they need, make it as easy as possible for them to turn into a conversion.

4. No Calls to Action

Calls to action present a clear and easy message to understand that can have an enticing promotion or simply lead to key information that a potential user might need. With calls to action you have a bit of power in directing users to the information, services or products that you want them to see.

5. Forgetting the Rest

While web design is a key factor in every web project, you must ensure that usability is also taken into account. While a beautifully designed website can attract potential customers, if it is too complex it will negatively impact the site load time and with every 1 second delay leading to a 7% drop in conversion rates, this is highly undesirable.
